Long story - short.
That crazy woman was the wife of a friend who bought the van and then
they tried to steal $1500 from me, being the final payment.
Claiming that their bank lost my money in the transfer and it was my problem to resolve it.
Paul Garnet was an active kiter for several years here in Auckland, so many of you will know these guys.
Well they (she) made the front page of the NZ Herald today. Looks like the trouble I had paled in comparison to what was being done to others around town.

I know Vodafone got duped out of over $1000 too, but as the name
suppression order only just got lifted I bet they have no idea about it.
Emma took $140,000 from one person alone! All up over 200k was taken and her and Paul lived the high life in Auckland on it.
Shame on them!
